Study information sheet
This page describes what the study is, what it records, and how your data is handled. It complements the consent notice shown at the start of the study.
Purpose
This is an independent research study of human factors in security operations. It investigates how signal noise, time pressure, and interface framing affect the workload, sensitivity, and decision-making of people performing security triage and phishing-detection tasks.
What participation involves
You complete two short, interactive tasks using simulated, fictional security scenarios, and answer a few standard questions about workload, confidence, and your own sense of skill. The whole study takes roughly 12 to 15 minutes. Participation is voluntary and you may stop at any time by closing the tab.
Eligibility
You must be 16 years of age or older to take part.
What is recorded
- Your interactions with the tasks, including clicks, timing, and decisions, stored under an anonymous, randomly generated participant code held only in your browser.
- Your answers to the workload (NASA-TLX), confidence, and security self-efficacy questions.
- An optional, coarse background question: your role and years of experience.
What is not recorded
The study does not collect your name, email address, IP address, precise location, or any other personally identifying information. There is no account and no login. Your responses cannot be linked back to you. Because the data is anonymous, individual responses cannot be withdrawn after they are submitted.
Data handling
Anonymous responses are stored to support aggregate analysis and are used only for research and educational purposes. Aggregate results (means and counts across participants) may appear in a technical report or academic work. No individual-level data is published. A short-lived, non-reversible rate-limit counter derived from network metadata is used purely to prevent abuse and is discarded within 24 hours.
Note on realism
Every company, person, and incident in the tasks is fictional. Some hostile indicators, such as Tor exit-node address ranges, are real-world values included only for realism. Investigate them within this study only; never visit, scan, or probe them from your own machine.
